Elmore always worried about his height, thought he was too
short. So he
went to the only doctor in Peyote, Dr. Fosforo de la Luz.
Actually the
doctor didn't have a medical degree, only a vetenarian degree
from Texas
A&M.
He'd gone to school on a scholarship which required him to
repay by
working in a small town after graduation - he chose Peyote - it
was small and
had more animals than people.
Anyway, Elmore told him his problem about being short. Dr. de
la Luz told
Elmore to rub lard on his forehead every night for a month and
that ought to
do the trick.
About two months later, the good Doctor saw Elmore on the
street and asked
him, "How's that treatment working?"
Elmore - "Not good, Doc."
Doctor - "Still using lard?"
Elmore - "No, I'm using Crisco."
Doctor - "Well, no wonder, Crisco is shortening."
